Allegheny County Bar Association logoThe Allegheny County Bar Association Membership Committee is presenting a virtual CLE program entitled Sorg Forum – The Disciplinary Process: Recognizing and Avoiding Common Complaints Through Practicing Law Both Ethically and with Civility on May 6, 2024 from 12:00 PM-1:15 PM Eastern. As the latest installment of the ACBA Sorg Forum series, ACBA members are invited to attend this CLE for free.

Understanding the Pa. Disciplinary process is essential for any attorney.

During this program, James Fox of the Office of Disciplinary Counsel will provide a brief overview of the disciplinary process including the role of the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, the organizational structure of the Disciplinary Board, the function of Hearing Committee members who review and approve recommended discipline and hear disciplinary and reinstatement hearings and issue reports as to disposition.

He will also discuss:

  • Common complaints and best practices to avoid being the subject of a complaint as well as current areas of concern to the courts and to clients
  • Attorneys’ obligation under the Rules of Disciplinary Enforcement to respond to inquiries from the Office of Disciplinary Counsel and the consequences if no response is provided
  • An attorney’s obligation to comply with registration and CLE requirements and the resulting consequences for their failure to do so
  • The Code of Civility and duty to practice law with the highest of ethical standards and to do so with civility and respect for clients, the courts and the integrity of our profession
