SUMMARY:I Don't Belong - Imposter Syndrome in the Legal Pr
 ofession (Beaver)
LOCATION:Beaver County Bar Association
DESCRIPTION:(https://bcba-pa.org/) The Beaver Cou
nty Bar Association in collaboration with Our Fami
ly Wizard will present a CLE seminar entitled I D
on’t Belong – Imposter Syndrome in the Legal Profe
 ssion (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLS
 fN55aph8hVlsS9ZCHwuagiIMwLGfm-_2ZkWj9A-ZPpKfn1KA/v
iewform?pli=1) at the Bar Association building in
Beaver. Registration and lunch will begin promptl
y at 11:30 a.m. The seminar will follow from 12:00
  PM to 1:00 PM.

The presenter will be: Brian
  S. Quinn, Esquire, Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers.

This program will discuss:

“What am I
  doing here?

I don’t belong.”“I’m a total fr
aud and, sooner or later, everyone’s going to find
out.” Imposter syndrome, also called perceived fr
audulence, involves feelings of self-doubt and per
sonal incompetence that persist despite your educa
tion, experience, and accomplishments. While early
studies focused on highly successful women, it is
now clear that it can affect anyone in the legal
profession – from law students to Big Law executiv
 es.

Living in constant fear of discovery, yo
u strive for perfection in everything you do. You
might feel guilty or worthless when you can’t achi
eve it, not to mention burned out and overwhelmed
by your continued efforts. The results can be deva
 stating.

True imposter feelings involve self
-doubt, uncertainty about your talents and abiliti
es. But what if you find yourself in an environmen
t where your peers fail to make room for you or im
ply you don’t deserve your success? Along with the
more traditional factors, gender bias and institu
tionalized racism can also play a significant part
in imposter feelings. Even if only perceived, the
y can surely reinforce the feeling you don’t belon
 g.

Hear our experienced speaker discuss the
impact of the untimely death of his mentor and how
trying to “fill his shoes” became more than a job
, it took over his life. The consequences were a d
ecades long effort to cope with and then conceal t
hose feelings with alcohol and drugs.

Mr. Qu
 inn will discuss:

1. Imposter Syndrome:
  What Is It?
2. Impacts of Imposter Syndrome
on Attorneys and our ability to uphold the Rules o
 f professional Conduct
3. The Role of Gender
and Racial Bias in Creating Imposter Syndrome

 4. Practical Guidance for Overcoming Imposter Syn
 drome
5. How to Support Attorneys Battling Im
 poster Syndrome
6. The confidential, safe, fr
ee, and supportive resources available through Law
 yers Assistance Programs
7. His personal Expe
rience of Struggling with Imposter Syndrome

Seating for the seminar is limited to 30. The fi
rst 30 reservations will be accepted.

LUNCH
WILL PROVIDED ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PREREGISTERE

Be an Effective Ambassador as a Nonprofit Board Me
 mber: Strengthening Lawyers’ Communication, Profes

Registrants may
  attend:

> In-Person at Aramark, 2400 M
arket Street, 7th Fl., Philadelphia, or
> Via
  Virtual Webcast.

Lawyers who serve on non
profit boards take on roles that closely mirror co
re aspects of legal practice, including fiduciary
 responsibility, strategic communication, reputatio
n management, and ethical decision making. Serving
as a nonprofit board member requires lawyers to c
ommunicate clearly and responsibly about an organi
zation’s mission, governance, and impact. These sk
ills directly translate to effective client counse
 ling, advocacy, and professional conduct.

Th
is CLE program explores how nonprofit board servic
e enhances lawyers’ professional competence by str
engthening communication skills, judgment, and eth
ical awareness. Panelists address how attorneys se
rving on nonprofit boards act as informed ambassad
ors for their organizations, balancing advocacy wi
th accuracy, discretion, and fiduciary duties. The
program also identifies common challenges faced b
y new board members, including gaps in onboarding,
governance literacy, and role clarity, and how la
wyers can proactively seek information necessary t
 o fulfill their duties.

Attendees learn how
engaging with nonprofit staff, participating in ev
ents, and building relationships sharpen lawyers’
abilities to communicate with diverse stakeholders
, manage risk, and maintain professionalism in pub
lic facing and internal contexts. The program also
examines how board service reinforces core legal
skills such as issue spotting, informed decision m
aking, and ethical leadership. The program conclud
es with practical guidance on identifying appropri
ate board opportunities, evaluating readiness for
service, and advocating for oneself while maintain
 ing professional responsibility.

Participant
s leave with the ability to:

> Apply ef
fective communication strategies as nonprofit boar
d members that mirror best practices in client com
 munication and professional advocacy
> Recogn
ize fiduciary and ethical considerations inherent
in nonprofit board service and how they align with
  professional obligations
> Enhance governanc
e literacy and professional judgment to support co
 mpetent, informed decision making
> Translate
nonprofit board experience into stronger networki
ng, leadership, collaboration, advocacy, and risk
 management skills Event Rates

Senio
rLAW Center is an independent 501(c)(3) legal serv
ices agency founded in 1978 as Senior Citizen Judi
care Project by members of the Philadelphia Bar As
sociation. Its original focus was to protect the l
egal rights and interests of Philadelphia’s needy,
elderly residents through a volunteer-driven prog
 ram.

It has since grown to have an array of
programs and services, a diverse staff of lawyers
and advocates, and has expanded its outreach and s
ervices to communities throughout Pennsylvania. Th
rough the efforts of its dedicated and experienced
legal staff and volunteers from Pennsylvania’s le
gal community, SeniorLAW Center today serves appro
ximately 10,000 older Pennsylvanians each year, in
cluding victims of elder abuse and financial explo
itation, elders facing housing crises and homeless
 ness, and grandparents raising grandchildren.

Since its founding in 1978, SeniorLAW Center ha
s provided free legal representation for over 50,0
00 seniors, focusing on the most vital and recurri
ng legal problems facing our elders: housing, elde
r abuse, financial exploitation, consumer problems
, grandparent custody, personal and end-of-life pl
anning needs. For additional information about Sen
 iorLAW Center, visit https://seniorlawcenter.org
