Philadelphia BAr Association logoThe Family Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association is hosting a virtual presentation entitled Act 79: What Family Law Practitioners Need to Know About Gun Relinquishment in Protection From Abuse Cases on March 7, 2024 from 12:00 PM -2:15 PM Eastern.

Both nationally and locally, there is a deadly link between firearms and domestic violence. Firearms are used in over 50% of all domestic violence homicides in Pennsylvania.  Act 79 strengthened and expanded the firearms prohibitions in the Protection from Abuse Act (PFA) and in criminal domestic violence cases. The Act’s provisions span multiple systems, including the PFA system and the criminal court system, and tasks multiple agencies, including the Philadelphia Police Department, sheriffs and courts, with implementing the law.

Attend this program to learn about the Act’s provisions, as well as practical tips from the agencies who enforce the act so that you can provide your clients with the most up to date information in these cases.
