Allegheny County Bar Association logoThe Allegheny County Bar Association Federal Court Section is presenting a CLE program entitled Meet the Clerk of Court in the Western District on January 25, 2024 from 12:00 PM-1:30 PM Eastern. This program is only being offered live in-person at the Joseph F. Weis, Jr. U.S. Courthouse in Pittsburgh.

This program will give local attorneys a chance to meet and hear from the new Clerk of Court for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pa., Brandy S. Lonchena, and the Deputy Clerk of Court, Bryan J. McGuinness. The program will inform attorneys as to the many executive and administrative responsibilities of the Clerk’s office within the Court, and how attorneys can work and interact with the Clerk’s office to increase efficiency and eliminate errors.

Major content areas that will be covered include:

  • Background information on the Clerk and Deputy, and the primary responsibilities of those offices and the Clerk’s office generally
  • How the Clerk’s office’s duties have changed with increased e-filing and other technological changes at the Court
  • The Clerk’s office’s collection and tracking of statistics relating to cases filed in the Western District, and takeaways and trends identified from that tracking
  • Best practice tips for attorneys relating to filing, confidential documents, service and other matters handled by the Clerk’s office
  • The Clerk’s office’s observations as to the most common mistakes made by attorneys and how to fix them
