AGENDA

This year’s CLE programs will feature sessions on:

  • Voting rights: Join our panelists as they provide an overview of the voting process on election day, insight on the election day rules, and methods the Commonwealth established to ensure voting access, such as third-party ballot delivery and accessible voting systems. The panel will discuss ways community advocacy impacts voting and provide strategies and resources that local communities can implement to effectively promote and increase voting access among diverse populations.
  • Reverse mentoring/Building Intergenerational Learning relationships in the Legal Community: Reverse mentoring or intergenerational relationship building is a learning relationship where the mentor is younger than the mentee. In reverse mentoring, senior members have an opportunity to understand new perspectives from junior members in the legal community. This session will present the Montgomery County Experiment, where Luz Denise Negron-Bennett and Victor O. Adeniran, 1L, will share their short experiences mentoring Judge Garrett D. Page and Judge A. Nicole Tate-Phillips.
  • Recent developments in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Issues discussed include Hate Speech v. Protected Speech; Transgender Rights; and Recognition of Juneteenth as a Holiday.
  • Being a Better Ally: What to Say When You See Something: This session will help us recognize when we have “seen something” and train us “what to say” and “how to say it.”
  • Autism in the Courts: This session will assist attendees to better understand and communicate with clients and witnesses having an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Our renowned panelists will describe the multitude of challenges and share their perspectives, experiences and techniques for ensuring ASD individuals have access to justice.
