Attorney Paul Edger Wins Prestigious Pennsylvania Bar Association C. Dale McClain Quality of Life/Balance Award

Well respected Pennsylvania attorney Paul Edger has been announced as the 2024 winner of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s C. Dale McClain Quality of Life/Balance award.

“It is truly a real honor to have been nominated, let alone selected for such a prestigious award.” Edger said.

The award criteria outlines a nominee as an individual who exemplifies the mission statement of the Wellness and Well-being Committee;

“The Wellness and Well-Being Committee shall identify issues relevant to attorney wellness, well-being and attorneys’ efforts to find balance in their professional and personal lives. The goal of the Committee shall be to serve as a vehicle for the dissemination of information, materials and resources the Committee determines may assist attorneys in maintaining and improving their overall quality of life, health, wellness and well-being. The Committee strives to empower attorneys by engaging in activities, education and programming designed to assist attorneys in their professional and personal goals and aspirations in all of these areas.”

Edger entered the field of law with the mentality that he should not only help others but help his friends and colleagues in the profession. “I am always mindful that I have a responsibility to ensure my decisions, and my judgment positively impacts my fellow lawyers.” Edger said.

Edger has planned programming events to help lawyers find a true work-life balance and not allow the stress and difficulty of the profession to get in the way of their happiness.

For the past three years, Edger has volunteered as a part of the Wills for Heroes program. Wills for Heroes is a program under the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and Pro Bono Office. The program provides free estate planning to military veterans and first responders. Attorneys volunteer their time to provide the estate planning services

Edger was instrumental in bringing this program back when he served as the chair for the Young Lawyers Division, immediately following the Covid pandemic. Following his chairmanship, he was appointed to be one of the statewide coordinators of Wills for Heroes. In this role, he and his colleagues work to bring Wills for Heroes around the state of Pennsylvania.

“Seeing a room of lawyers give back to our veterans and first responders who risk everything to us safe is what keeps me striving to do more for this program. If my actions of asking attorneys to volunteer for a great cause (possibly in an area of law they normally do not practice but are eager to help), setting up events where we have not been before, and finding clients who have no estate makes a difference. I will always continue to find ways to make our program bigger and better for everyone involved.” Edger said.

Edger is a graduate of Widener Law School and has been a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association since he began law school in 200. He his career in private practice, practicing civil litigation, family law, criminal defense and construction law. He then joined MidPenn Legal Services for several years. He began as a staff attorney in Carlisle then worked up to Managing attorney of Carlisle, and then to the Regional Managing Attorney of Carlisle, Gettysburg and Chambersburg.

Following working with MidPenn, he stepped into his current role at the Office of Attorney General as a Senior Deputy Attorney General and the Attorney-in-charge of the Bureau of Consumer Protection’s Harrisburg region.

Edger will be honored with the award during the Pennsylvania Bar Association Committee/Section Day luncheon on Nov. 21 at the Red Lion Hotel.
