Prepare to Celebrate Pro Bono This October

Celebrate Pro Bono graphicThe ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service invites you to join in the National Celebration of Pro Bono during the week of October 23-29, 2022.

During the 2022 Celebration, you are encourageed to plan and participate in events around the theme of Law in Everyday Life. Use the Celebration to highlight the ways in which access to legal assistance affects historically excluded and low-income individuals across the country in all aspects of life.

As part of this year's Celebration it is hoped that you will plan events to educate attorneys, law students, and legal support staff of the need for pro bono assistance, educate individuals about the availability of legal services, and assist individuals with their legal needs.

The 2022 Celebration is an opportunity to connect pro bono providers and attorneys across the nation. We hope you will join in showcasing the incredible difference that pro bono lawyers make to our nation, to our system of justice, to our communities, and most of all, to the clients they serve.

Event Ideas for 2022
  1. Recognize your volunteer attorneys on social media or your website. Share a testimonial from a volunteer attorney or a client on what pro bono means to them.
  2. Hold legal check-ups or other educational events to educate potential clients of their legal needs and assistance available.
  3. Hold a clinic where lawyers can provide advice to clients in areas of need.
  4. Sponsor CLE programs for volunteer attorneys on the need for pro bono, ethical obligations under Rule 6.1 (or your state's ethical rules), and/or cultural competency when providing services.
  5. Hold a virtual pro bono opportunities fair. Highlight different pro bono opportunities with short testimonials from program representatives and attorneys or clients on ways that attorneys can get involved.

Bonus Idea: Mail or deliver some small appreciation items to your volunteer attorneys to let them know how much you appreciate their dedication to pro bono during challenging times. You can find small appreciation items here.

The ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service is available to support you with resources to assist with planning your events and campaigns. Visit the National Celebration of Pro Bono website for event ideas and resources, or contact the ABA's Center for Pro Bono to help facilitate your planning.
