Pro Bono Opportunities

Military Pro Bono Project: Pro Bono Representation

We still need your help during COVID-19! Please continue to help us help servicemembers and their families during this difficult time.

The Military Pro Bono Project accepts case referrals from military legal assistance offices anywhere in the world on behalf of junior enlisted servicememebers facing civil legal issues, and it places these cases with pro bono attorneys where the legal assistance is needed in the U.S. You can view pro bono case opportunities at any time on our website, which is updated daily.

Operation Stand-By: Guidance to Military and Pro Bono Attorneys

Through the Military Pro Bono Project, you may also elect to participate in Operation Stand-By. Operation Stand-By allows you to offer to be on "stand-by" to provide attorney-to-attorney advice to military attorneys and other pro bono attorneys, so they can further assist their servicemember and veteran clients.

Join by logging onto our website and updating your profile by clicking on “Join Operation Stand-By” and selecting your area(s) of expertise.

Case Spotlight

Volunteer Attorney Helps Domestic Violence Victim with Divorce and Parenting Orders

An Air Force servicemember and her husband separated after he physically abused her. She received a temporary emergency order of protection against him to protect herself and her children, but eight months later the emergency order had expired, and the servicemember continued to feel threatened and wanted a divorce. She visited a legal assistance office and was referred to the Military Pro Bono Project, which placed her case with a volunteer attorney. The pro bono attorney was not only able to get the servicemember a divorce, but also establish child support payments and child visitation restrictions for the  children’s safety. The pro bono attorney also helped ensure that the servicemember had sole authority to determine where the children could live and attend school, which also relieved any complications with accepting new change of station orders from the Air Force.
