Report an Impaired Colleague (Virtual Event - Ber
 ks County)
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:(https://berksbar.org/) Berks County

 =323200&evSubAction=listAll) on April 9, 2026 fro
 m 12:00 PM-1:00 PM Eastern..

Presented by Br
ian S. Quinn, Esq., Education and Outreach Coordin
ator, Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers of PA.

> "I think he drinks too much - but he's my bo
 ss!"
> "She's the firm's rainmaker, but somet
 hing isn't right."
> "What will happen to our
reputation if our clients find out he's in a ment
 al health facility"?

These issues are beco
ming more common as the prevalence rates for impai
rment due to substance and alcohol misuse, stress,
anxiety and depression continue to rise. One out
of three lawyers will require some form of treatme
nt for these issues in their careers. Despite thes
e startling statistics, the fear of asking for hel
p remains. Many believe it is the very culture whi
ch has been created in the legal profession that h
as lent itself to the notion that overwork remains
the norm and seeking assistance is a sign of weak
 ness.

This program will explore:

1
. The ethical dilemmas that can occur when a coll
eague, a supervisor or a subordinate exhibits sign
 s of distress or impairment;
2. The duty to r
eport misconduct as set forth in the Rules of Prof
 essional Conduct.
3. The responsibilities imp
osed by the Rules upon both supervisory and subord
inate attorneys for the misconduct of attorneys an
 d staff members.
4. The harm that can occur t
o all parties by "looking the other way" or ignori
ng new bad behaviors because it's "none of my busi
 ness."
5. The stigma that surrounds substance
misuse and mental health issues in the legal prof
 ession.
6. The free resources that Lawyers As
sistance programs provide to help lawyers, judges,
their families and law students Event Rates
