SUMMARY:Disability Discrimination in Employment (Virtual E
 vent-Philadelphia)
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:(https://philadelphiabar.org/) The Le
gal Rights of Persons with Disabilities Committee
of the Philadelphia Bar Association is hosting a v
 irtual presentation entitled Disability Discrimin
 ation in Employment (https://philadelphiabar.org/
 ?pg=events&evAction=showDetail&eid=302418&evSubAct
 ion=listAll)  on June 10, 2025 from 12:00 PM-1:00
 PM Eastern.

The Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA) requires employers to provide reasonable
accommodations to employees living with disabilit
ies if the employer knows of the disability unless
doing so would present an undue hardship. The emp
loyment reasonable accommodation process is an int
eractive one between the employer and employee liv
ing with a disability. This process is used to ide
ntify accommodations that will enable the employee
to perform their essential job duties effectively
  and then implement those accommodations.

Th
e employer and employee first engage in discussion
s regarding the employee's needs and limitations,
and potential accommodations by the employer. The
employer may then request relevant medical informa
tion, review the job description, and identify pot
ential accommodations. The employer and employee c
ollaborate to select accommodation that is effecti
ve and will not cause an undue hardship for the em
ployer. Once the accommodation has been implemente
d, the employer and employee will follow up to ens
ure the accommodation's effectiveness and make any
necessary adjustments. This process ensures that
the accommodation is specifically tailored to the
specific needs of the employee living with a disab
ility and to the specific needs of the job.

In this CLE program, learn who is protected under
the ADA, what other laws are relevant, and about t
he reasonable accommodation process that employers
must engage in with employees living with disabil
 ities. Panelists:
