ACBA logoThe Allegheny County Bar Association Probate and Trust Law Section is presenting a program entitled Guardianships: Serving as Court Appointed Counsel on March 10, 2026 from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM Eastern.

Serving as court-appointed counsel in guardianship cases is essential to ensuring that an alleged incapacitated person's legal rights are represented and due process is served. At this session, practitioners who serve as court-appointed counsel will cover a variety of topics, including:

  • How to apply to be court appointed counsel
  • Responsibilities of court-appointed counsel
  • Scope and duration of representation
  • Getting paid
  • Recent updates to guardianship law

Guardianship Department Supervisor, Trevor Fleming, will discuss common missteps made by practitioners and provide guidance for court-appointed counsel dealing with challenging clients and/or cases. Introductory remarks will be given by the Hon. Hugh McGough.
