National Center on Law & Elder Rights logoThe National Center on Law & Elder Rights is hosting a free webinar entitled HUD-Subsidized Housing for Older Adults with Criminal Records on May 31, 2023 from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM Eastern.

Older adults with prior arrest and conviction records are at high risk for homelessness and housing instability, even though they are at a low risk for committing a criminal offense. Access to HUD-subsidized housing can help them secure the stability they need after exiting the criminal legal system.

This webinar will highlight the importance of housing for older adults with a record and walk advocates through the rules regarding admission to HUD-subsidized housing for people with records, including protections under the federal Fair Housing Act.

Participants will understand:

  1. The importance of housing for older adults with criminal records and the unique challenges that they face in accessing housing after involvement with the criminal legal system.
  2. The rules for admission to HUD-subsidized housing for people with prior arrests and convictions.

Presenters:

  • Lisa Sitkin, Supervising Attorney, National Housing Law Project
  • Marie Claire Tran-Leung, Evictions Initiative Project Director & Senior Staff Attorney, National Housing Law Project

Capacity for this session is limited to 3,000 participants, and all participants will have the option of accessing audio through the computer or by phone. Closed captioning will be available.
