Modern slavery manifests itself in a wide range of contexts and without respect for international borders.  Accordingly, the fight against modern slavery takes many forms in the transnational practice space, including tireless civil society and private sector efforts in both public international law and private international law.  This program will explore the nature of civil society and private sector efforts to fight human trafficking and modern slavery on both sides of the divide between public and private international law.

Expert faculty will provide attendees with a very brief overview of private international law as it relates to the fight against human trafficking and modern slavery followed by individual presentations by leading advocates in the field highlighting opportunities for legal professionals (like you) to get involved in meaningful pro bono or advocacy-related efforts in this practice space.

Topics include:

  • Brief introduction to private international law and its relevance to human trafficking - 12 minutes
  • The landscape of private international law as context for the fight against human trafficking – 12 minutes
  • Private sector engagement with the fight against human trafficking – 12 minutes
  • Efforts to fight online sexual exploitation of children – 12 minutes
  • Fighting human trafficking in corporate supply chain contracts – 12 minutes
Who Should Attend:

Anyone interested in efforts to fight human trafficking and modern slavery and anyone interested in learning about meaningful pro bono opportunities would benefit from attending.
