The Delaware County Bar Association invites attorneys and other legal professionals to a CLE program entitled New Expungement Statute and Recent Amendment to Permit Sealing of Criminal Records on October 25, 2016 from 4:00 pm -5:30 pm Eastern in the Delaware County Bar Association Auditorium.

On November 14, 2016 the provisions of Act 5 (SB 188) go into effect which will allow people with certain misdemeanor convictions to petition the courts to seal their criminal records. Sealing is not an expungement and expungements will still be available to erase non-conviction charges and charges resolved with ARD, as well as summary convictions following a five year arrest free period.

Join the discussion of the expungement and sealing procedures (and the new rule authorizing the filing of a Petition to Seal), the new fees to be imposed on both expungement and sealing petitions and the impact of the Pa. Supreme Court’s decision in Commonwealth v. Giulian on expungement practice in Pennsylvania.

Speakers include Phillip B. Rosenthal, Esquire, from Legal Aid of Southeast Pennsylvania, and Robert C. Keller, Esquire, of Keller, Lisgar and Williams.

Following the seminar, the DCBA Pro Bono Committee invites all members of the bar to attend a wine and cheese reception to celebrate National Pro Bono Week

The Hon. Barry C. Dozor will be honored with a Special Pro Bono Recognition Award for his work shepherding through passage of Local Rule 1012, which permits pro bono attorneys to enter a limited appearance in custody cases. It is anticipated that this rule will facilitate pro bono representation of indigent clients and allow more clients access to the courts.
