On Tuesday, May 11, 2010 and Wednesday, May 12, 2010 special pre-conference sessions are offered to those who register for the main Equal Justice Conference.
Those pre-conference events include:
- New Executive Director Training
Tuesday and Wednesday, May 11 - 12, 2010, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
This two day training is designed for the new directors of LSC-funded, IOLTA-funded, elder law, pro bono and protection and advocacy programs, as well as for experienced directors of new programs which provide legal assistance and legal information to low income clients.
Cost: $310 for MIE Subscribers and $410 for non-Subscribers, in addition to the basic conference fee (see www.m-i-e.org for more information and registration form)
- THE ABA CENTER FOR PRO BONO PRESENTS: New Pro Bono Managers - Nuts & Bolts
Wednesday, May 12, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Designed for new (in your position for one year or less) pro bono coordinators/managers, this program will address the basic elements of operating a pro bono program. Pre-registration required.
Cost: $125, in addition to the basic conference fee (includes continental breakfast and lunch on Wednesday). Space for this event is limited. Cancellations must be received in writing no later than April 23, and are subject to a $20 penalty.

- Law School Pro Bono Advisors Program
Wednesday, May 12, 1:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Designed for law school pro bono program advisors, coordinators, directors and assistant and associate deans, this program will take a close look at law school pro bono including cutting-edge programs and activities. Several interactive workshops will explore the unique aspects of operating and expanding a law school pro bono program.
Cost: Included with the basic conference registration fee. From 11:30 a.m. - 12:50 p.m. there will be an optional Networking Lunch for an additional $30 fee. (Please see registration form for more details.)
- THE ABA CENTER FOR PRO BONO AND THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PRO BONO PROFESSIONALS PRESENT: Beyond the Basics: The "Right Stuff" For Launching a Successful Pro Bono Project
Wednesday, May 12, 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
What do you do when you're challenged to start a new pro bono project within your program? Learn the essential elements for success in designing or reinventing any pro bono project including specific tips for what to do, how to do it, and what not to do.
Cost: Included with the basic conference registration fee.
- THE EQUAL JUSTICE CONFERENCE PRESENTS: Public Interest Impact Litigation and Transactional Programs
Wednesday, May 12, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This pre-conference workshop will create an open environment for public interest practitioners and pro bono law firms to share information on successful models for partnership with firms and discuss challenges among peers, as well as discuss how to ensure the continued support of the work.
Cost: Included with the basic conference registration fee
- Self-Represented Litigation Network Educational Program
Wednesday, May 12, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
(Non-members interested in SRL issues are welcome to attend.)
The program will include reports on outcomes of SRLN projects such as Court Diagnostic Protocols, Public Library engagement, and research on cost-savings. There will be discussion of emerging issues like e-filing impact on SRLs and Justice Department enforcement of LEP requirements, and time for sharing program challenges and successes.
Cost: $45, in addition to the basic conference fee (includes lunch on Wednesday; breakfast NOT included).
