PBI is offering reduced tuition for attorneys who volunteer with a pro bono project assisting military service members and veterans.
With the war on terror, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and other possible world trouble spots demanding the commitment of American military power, deployments of active, reserve, and National Guard units have reached levels not seen in decades. While the military’s JAG officers are currently handling many of the legal questions and concerns of those deployed, assistance is needed for family members and veterans, especially in areas of practice where JAG officers are prohibited from assisting.
The Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations currently maintain a standing list of attorneys who are trained and willing to provide pro bono assistance to all military communities.
To volunteer for the program, you must:
- be licensed in Pennsylvania;
- carry professional liability insurance; and
- possess a willingness to provide pro bono services to our fighting men and women and their families on short notice.
A special tuition of $50 will be offered to all attorneys who complete and present a Pennsylvania or Philadelphia Bar Association Military Assistance Program Volunteer Application. There will be no refunds for after program submission.
The program will be based on the new Pennsylvania Bar Association Lawyers’ Military Desk Reference, which will constitute the written material for the course.
This event will be presented live at PBI Conference Center, 5080 Ritter Road, Rossmoyne Exit, Rt. 15, Mechanicsburg, PA on August 5, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and simulcast to locations in the cities listed below:
