The Pennsylvania Bar Institute will be presenting a program entitled, Understanding Social Security Retirement live from Mechanicsburg and live via simulcast across the state on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 9:00 am -12:15 pm. The program will also be presented live in Philadelphia on Friday, January 25, 2012 and in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, January 30, 2013.

Choosing when to retire is one of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime. Determining how much money you can get through Social Security is a huge factor in that decision. Today, about 55 million people receive monthly Social Security benefits. How and when should you claim those benefits? And what's the best advice to give your clients who are seeking your counsel? This new course dispels the myths and focuses on the practical realities of Social Security benefits. Mr. Whitelaw is a supervising attorney in the Aging and Disabilities Unit of Community Legal Services, Inc. in Philadelphia. He has more than 20 years of experience in representing clients before the Social Security Administration, having represented hundreds of individuals in administrative hearings, federal district court and the Court of Appeals. Mr. Whitelaw's practice consists exclusively of matters before the Social Security Administration and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.

Legal Services / Public Interest Lawyers

PBI waives the tuition fee for the first 12 hours of CLE taken in each calendar year, for attorneys employed full-time by many nonprofit legal services and public interest organizations providing legal services to individuals at no or de minimis fees. These attorneys may enroll for additional CLE courses at 50 percent of the highest member fee. This policy does not apply to distance education courses.
